Places of interest traveling from Llandovery 
Due to the locality of Llandovery, it is a great location to use as a base to travel to other beautiful areas of Wales. 
In a rural location Llandovery can still offer a variety of transport options (road, rail and bus). 
Llandovery is easily accessible on the A40 and there are also regular train services on the Heart of Wales Line (Arriva Trains) between Shrewsbury and Swansea, with views of natural beauty and charm it's a journey which is highly recommended.
 
Below are only some of the many places to visit which are all either within a few minuets drive from Llandovery, or are a lovely days drive passing some of the most beautiful scenery in Wales.

Myddfai

By road 3.5 mles

Myddfai is a small hamlet consisting of a Community Hall, Visitor Centre & Tŷ Talcen gift Shop which is an energy efficient facility surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Rhandirmwyn

By road - 7.2 miles

A small village with a big dam!  Lovely walks and beautiful scenery including around Llyn Brianne dam.  Take a relaxing walk along way-marked paths through wet and oak woodlands to the fast-flowing River Tywi, circle the mountain, and visit Twm Sion Cati’s cave (a local Robin Hood character). The woods are one of the best in Carmarthenshire for bluebells and can be seen from the end of March, often into May, they carpet the woodland floor in blue and their smell is overpowering! You can also see orchids and other flowers growing in and near the woods. You can spot Red Kites as they circle above looking for prey (they have forked tails) aswell as many other birds and animals. Great views are seen from the walk as the river Tywi crashes through the valley.

Talley

By road 12.6 miles

Medieval village with an abbey ruin dated from 1100's.  There are two lakes near the abbey ruins, which was used for fish farming to support the community of monks at the time. The abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII and the structure mined by the villagers for stone to build much of the present village and the chapel next to the abbey.  The ruinous tower is surrounded by steep wooded hills, and it can be reached by a circuitous lane from the main road. It is well signposted.

Llandeilo

By road - 12 miles

The wealth of historic monuments like mediaeval Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen castles managed by the National Trust make Llandeilo a tourist centre from which to explore the riches of west Wales.

Lampeter

By road 18.6 miles

There's a regular farmer's market as well as cafes serving home made cakes, italian ice cream and other freshly prepared and artisan food. Lampeter has a lively Transition Town community, and even has its own shopping loyalty card.

Brecon

The town of Brecon nestles in the shadow of the majestic Brecon Beacons and has stunning and beautiful scenery.  It is rich in history and there is something of interest for everyone.

Carmarthen Town

By road 27.2 miles Rail links Arriva Line

Carmarthen has much to commend to the enquiring visitor.  With historical buildings and many shops it is a steal place to visit. 

Aberaeron

By road 31.7 miles

Aberaeron is a harbour town, perched on the coastline of Cardigan Bay.  With lovely castle walks and areas to sit and eat fish and chips also dog friendly beaches.

Tenby

By road 52.9 miles

Tenby's hilltop position led to its early settlement as a Welsh stronghold, which was replaced in medieval times by a Norman Castle and walled town. Part of the town walls survive to this day and are an attractive feature at the entrance to the old town.

Until quite recently Tenby was known as "Little England beyond Wales" and the town remains a rather anglicised part of Wales.
